Summer is here.
Hi Everyone!
We're closed for the season.
Please call if you're in deep desperation for a gift.
We'd love to accommodate you.
Thanks for the visits, laughs and joy you've brought to
By the Red Barn.

I love this piece sent to me by a friend.

We are facing tough times.  This says a lot about how we can deal with the challenges facing us all:

THE HOT CHOCOLATE STORY

A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking at a

reunion and decided to go visit their old university professor, now retired.

During their visit, the conversation turned to complaints about stress in their

work and lives. Offering his guests hot chocolate, the professor went into the

kitchen and returned with a large pot of hot chocolate and an assortment of

cups-porcelain, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some

exquisite -- telling them to help themselves to the hot chocolate.

When they all had a cup of hot chocolate in hand, the professor said:

'Notice that all the nice looking; expensive cups were taken, leaving behind the

plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for

yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.

The cup that you're drinking from adds nothing to the quality of the hot

chocolate. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides

what we drink. What all of you really wanted was hot chocolate, not the cup;

but you consciously went for the best cups...

And then you began eyeing each others cups.

Now consider this: Life is the hot chocolate; your job, money and position in

society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life. The cup you

have does not define, nor change the quality of life you have. Sometimes, by

concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the hot chocolate we have.

The happiest people don't have the best of everything.

They just make the best of everything that they have.

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Thank creation for your

blessings in 2008. And enjoy your hot chocolate!

In July

Don’t miss a fun time at Mountain View Lavender Farm.

I had a wonderful time attending last year.  Ciscoe is as cute as a bug, along with great tips and stories.

It’s definitely worth the the drive out to Mountain View Lavender Farm

They carry more than lavender.  Many unusual perennials and annuals, too….

Plus a view and atmosphere that is priceless.

Hi People,

We made it through this interesting winter into spring.

New Spring Hours:

By the Red Barn

Wednesday Thru Friday

11AM to 6PM

Saturday  11AM to 4PM

GRADUATION is just around the corner.

Remember those Grads!

With the warmer weather, I’m looking forward to watching the flowers burst into robust bloom.

What a gift from these plants!

“In giving, we align ourselves with a perennial generosity.

Whether it is material resources, knowledge, wisdom or love,

Whatever we offer expresses the truth of our existence and, as such, is sacred.

And we, too, together with all things,

Are sacred from the very beginning and have never been separate from the universe of giving.

(Seattle Times ~ Eileen Kiera)

I finished planting the window boxes on the house recently. (Only about 2 weeks later than usual…..It has been COLD)

It’s a new lease on planting:  I’m trying Million Bells.  I’ve grown this plant before: it has been profuse.

I went with a multicolor mix which if it works will be beautiful.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed!

I’m a little stiff from the outdoor work yet it’s worth the future blossoms!

More Mushroom birdfeeder/Stakes feeders coming on June 2nd!  You can see a picture on the website. LOOK at SSS!

Great as Yard art and practical, too.

One customer bought one.  I added a bow.  She put it in a friends flower bed to

greet the friend when she got home!  Nice surprise, huh?

I’m always more than happy to add a bow and ribbon to your gifts!

Please come by for those last minute school gifts for teachers, co-workers, etc.

We will find something!!!!!

From Willow Tree figures, Carson plates, Knock Knock stationery,

Seaside decorations, garden items, bath salts and more.

I went on a side trip in May.  A friend, Thea, and I, went to visit our mutual friend, Jill, in Wenatchee.

Jill and her husband have retired over there.  Fun stuffMy favorite type of get away.

No tedious planning.  Basically, jump in the car, drive several hundred miles, talk your socks off with a friend,

meander coming and going, join friends for laughs and memories.  Who could ask for more?

Well, I pulled a real doozie of a blunder in Wenatchee

Jill, Thea and I were eating lunch at this funky restaurant called “Studebakers”.  I was taking pictures right and left.

See some  pictures on the website: www.bytheredbarn.com

This place was fascinating..

It was decorated in fifty’s and sixty’s style. ( Lot’s of pictures and doodads to bring back memories of times past.)

Anyway, I needed to use the loo.

I followed the signs to the restrooms.  The first door was partially open.

I saw the letter “G” (as in GIRLS) out of the corner of my eye.  My head is down and I’m going in.  (Too much ice water)

So, I am carrying on with the picture taking,

I shot this crazy, bright colorful room. (Flames up the walls, red and yellow)

I went back to the table and said “You’re right, Jill.  The bathroom is way cool”.

Then, I proceeded to show Jill and Thea the picture on my digital camera.

Jill gets silent.  She says, “Candy, you went into the men’s bathroom!”

I rush back and to my surprise, the door said “Guys” not “Girls!

Well, we couldn’t stop laughing for some time!

If you go to the website:  www.bytheredbarn.com

Go to the “Coming’s and Goings” page you can see two great men’s and woman’s bathrooms.

I totally recommend a drive to Wenatchee.  The nationally, maybe world renowned, Ohme gardens are there.

Ohme Gardens Tourist Attraction Wenatchee, WA

It is worth the trip over the mountains if you like gardens, ponds, and rock formations. (The last time I was there, I was 8 months pregnant with my son, Bryce.

My recollection of that visit was that my equilibrium was not the best going up and down the rock stairs and paths)

There is quite an interesting history of how this garden on the side of the hill was formed. Give it a look.

Jill, Thea and I took an evening walk along the river.  The artwork and sculptors were interesting and entertaining, too.

"Sculpture & painting

have the effect of teaching us manners

& abolishing hurry"

Ralph Waldo Emerson

In lieu of the economy and the dwindling of traffic (it does happens every year at this time, a little more in 2008) to the shop,

I will be closing By the Red Barn sometime in June. (Don’t panic…only temporarily)

We will re-open in the fall. (I’ll keep you posted) I so recognize the hardships we are all going through with the rising price of gasoline and food.

That most certainly has to come before the “treasures” we carry at By the Red Barn.  So, I’ve made up my mind to savor the time off.

I intend to “enjoy” each “weed pulled and hole dug” in the garden.  I will take pleasure sitting on the back deck by the “Friendship doors”

listening to the birds, reading and “being”.  Please know I appreciate everyone that has come by in the last few months.

We are facing tough times so I am grateful for any patronage headed my way.

Thank you.

I’ll write again before I close.

If I don’t see you, have a wonderful summer.

ENJOY!

Candy
